Mike Walrond ~ Sales Manager Qld/NT ~ Ferno Australia

Drawing on his many years experience in the safety industry, Mike presented a very informative session relating to the innovative new Multi Purpose Adjustable Lanyard which allows personnel to position themselves in restraint rather than fall arrest, alleviating the need for rescue.

Mike also touched on the new Arachnipod which is being launched at the Brisbane Safety Show this week. More details will be forthcoming on this item of confined space rescue equipment in the near future.

Jason Jones ~ Regional Sales Manager Qld/NT ~ BW Technologies

Jason provided working samples of the large range of BW compact lightweight gas detection units suitable for use in confined spaces. The user friendly units ranged from maintenance-free single gas detecting units to the more sophisticated units which are able to detect up to 5 gases.

Included in the range was a model which identifies PID detectable VOCs, and another model which uses an NDIR sensor to monitor CO2 levels. These units are eminently suitable for a vast range of confined space entry work including telecom, oil & gas, utilities, refineries, construction, plumbers plus many more applications.

Troy Williamson ~ Director ~ Crane Safe Solutions

Having been been involved in design, installation and recertification of cranes for more than 10 years, Troy discussed the Australian Standard AS2550 and offered an interpretation to clarify certain aspects. The Standard states that "when cranes have reached the end of their design life or, where this is unknown, after ten years, they must be overhauled and certified for continued safe use" (see more on the Aust Standard by following the link to our website).

Utilising his First Class Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Troy has been instrumental in designing a data logging system for overhead cranes. The LoadMate DX Crane Data Logger monitors and records crane loads, movements and duration of each lift which will ultimately record the exact time the crane reaches its design life - effectively a 'black box' for the crane .
