Last weekend Mt Isa hosted the annual Queensland Mines Rescue Challenge which saw seven teams compete in the ultimate challenge. Congratulations to the overall team winners who were Century Mine, Mt Isa Mines and BMA Crinum respectively in first, second and third place.

Congratulations must also go to organisers and the other participating teams from BHP Cannington, Ernest Henry Mine, Ready Mix and NQ Mixed on a very successful event.

Road Accident Rescue Event sponsored by Safe Option Solutions and Ferno

The scenario: 2 people were trapped in a ute which had collided with large mining plant. The ute was partially crushed under the rear wheel of the plant. The driver was non-responsive and the passenger had a broken leg. The teams worked to extract both persons from the vehicle utilising various extraction equipment. Congratulations to Century Mine, the winning team in this highly regarded event.

One of the products on hand for the first time for use by the teams during the Road Accident Rescue discipline was the TNT CC20 primary cutter, secondary spreader combi tool. The scenario: A person dismantling the top of a head frame had become unresponsive. The access stairs had previously been removed. The teams were required to climb up the head frame, treat the patient and lower him to ground level for further treatment.
